MKPLUS Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce the completion of a mass production prototype of a “Vanadium Solid State Battery” through joint development efforts with the Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University and the Institute for Composite Nuclear Science and Technology, Kyoto University. Ltd. is pleased to report the completion of a mass-production prototype of a “vanadium solid-state battery” through joint development with the Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University and the Institute for Composite Nuclear Science and Technology, Kyoto University.

Background

Social interest in battery technology as a tool to realize global environmental measures is increasing day by day. However, there is no battery technology that solves all of the following problems, even with existing technologies and the latest new technologies.

Danger of explosion and combustion
Slow charging speed (1-10C rate is the upper limit)
Short life span (degradation due to charge-discharge cycles)
Heat generation
Resource conservation

Features of the developed product

The developed product solves all of the above issues and has the following features.

No risk of explosion or combustion
Fast recharging speed (120C rate possible)
Theoretically infinite life span and no degradation after 15,000 cycles of accelerated evaluation.
No heat generation
No use of rare metals
High productivity and low cost

*6 Demonstration experiment will be conducted in 2022.

In March 2021, we established a joint development laboratory in the Materials Innovation Center of Tohoku University, and have been developing the product with mass production in mind.

Future Initiatives

From 2022, we will conduct mass production tests and create 1kWh and 100kWh scale modules. We will create 1 kWh and 100 kWh scale modules while conducting mass production tests. We will conduct evaluation tests on the 100kWh module at the final customer, fine-tune the cells, and then prepare for mass production by the end of 2022. We will conduct evaluation tests on the 100kWh module at the final customer, fine-tune the cells, and try to provide mass production by the end of 2022.
